Begin with the purpose of the fence

Privacy, screening and a clear boundary can call for different layouts. Describe which views you want to screen and how people move through the garden. Include existing decks, steps and gates in the brief so a new fence does not leave an awkward route or an unfinished edge beside them.

Before requesting a fencing quote

  1. Identify the proposed fence line and any uncertainty about its position.
  2. Discuss shared-boundary plans with the neighbour before committing to work.
  3. Show any gate openings, paths or steps that must stay usable.
  4. Include removal and disposal of the old fence in the scope discussion.
  5. Check relevant council requirements for the proposed height and location.

A useful privacy brief

“We want to screen the seating area from the path, keep access to the side of the house and retain afternoon light” is more useful than selecting a board style alone. Bring photographs taken from the seating area and the path to explain the trade-off.

Can the fence be planned with a deck?

Yes, fencing sits within Fix All’s outdoor building scope. Explain both parts of the project so their levels, edges and access can be discussed together. A pool barrier or retaining structure needs its own assessment; do not assume an ordinary boundary fence brief covers it.
