Your bathroom renovation checklist

Prepare the decisions that affect your bathroom before the room is taken apart. This checklist brings layout, fixtures, finishes and daily living into one brief, so your first conversation with Fix All can focus on the work your Wellington home needs.

Start with the daily routine

Think about who uses the bathroom, when it is busiest and what currently gets in the way. A storage problem, difficult cleaning or an awkward shower entry can each lead to a different solution. Describe the problem before selecting a product, then separate what must change from preferences that can be adjusted.

Before the bathroom is out of use

  1. Confirm where the household will wash and use a toilet.
  2. Clear the room and agree storage for retained items.
  3. Agree the access route and how adjoining areas are protected.
  4. Record who approves any change discovered after strip-out.
  5. Ask which selections must be final before the start is confirmed.

Make accessories part of the plan

A towel rail, mirror cabinet and toilet-roll holder can be easy to leave until the end. Mark their intended positions with the rest of your selections and ask about the supporting work. This avoids making decisions only after finished surfaces are in place.

What if this is the only bathroom?

Raise it at the first discussion. Ask when each fixture is expected to be unavailable, what temporary arrangement is realistic and what would happen if the programme changes. Do not assume the bathroom can be made usable every evening during the work.
